Search engines like google, Bing, yahoo and many more are the largest place for anyone to find anything. In fact, people these days even use search engines to find ATM near them. This is the reason that’s search engine optimization is so important for any online business. But how google or any other search engine decides that which website should rank higher. In this blog I will discuss about the google algorithm updates which helps the search engines to decide that who will rank higher on a same keyword.

There are total 8 major updates by google till now, each one by one helping in finding the most relevant result according to the user’s search. Let’s discuss them one by one.

1-      Panda- Panda assign a quality score to your website, this score is used in the ranking factor in the later stage. In the starting Panda was a filter but in 2016 it was declared as the official algorithm update. The main purpose behind Panda update was to get the most unique content and get the copied content out of the story. So, if you have an e-commerce website then for sure you can’t get a 100% unique content so try to keep your image unique.

2-      Penguin- Penguin update was launched to down the websites with fake links. So, if you not doing a proper backlinking of your website then start doing so because it may be one of the reason because of which your website is not ranking on search engines.

3-      Hummingbird- It helps Google to better interpret the search queries and give the better result to the user. In other word I can say it focuses on context rather then focusing on content. It helps to rank the queries even if they are not matching the exact search term.

4-      Pigeon- It brings the location factor into play. If a user is searching something then the search engine will show the nearest service available to him. It also plays a big role in local SEO.

5-      Mobile- Google has launched this update to make it sure that every website should be mobile friendly also. So, if your website is not compatible to mobile then it will not rank high on search engines.

6-      Rank brain- It is a part of Google hummingbird update, it is a system which helps search engine to understand the meaning behind the search queries. So, try to provide a relevant content on your website, especially title and description tags of your web-pages.

7-      Possum- The possum update makes sure that the user gets the local result first whenever they search anything.  So be sure of doing local listing of your website.

8-      Fred- With this update Google ignores all those websites which shows irrelevant ads on their web-pages. So, choose ads wisely before placing them on your web-pages.
